A 14-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital following a road traffic collision in Glengormley.

The schoolboy, who was a pedestrian, was involved in a collision with a silver-coloured Audi TT on the Ballyclare Road at around 4.40pm on Wednesday.

The child was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was flown to the Royal Victoria Hospital by the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Victoria hospital said the boy was in a critical condition.

A PSNI spokesman said the female driver of the car had been "spoken to by police and is assisting officers with their enquiries".

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Meanwhile, police have also appealed for information about a hit and run road traffic collision in Maghaberry, Co Antrim.

A cyclist wearing a hi-visibility top was struck by a white transit van whilst cycling towards Maghaberry village at around 8am on Wednesday.
