AS many as 126,000 adults in Northern Ireland are currently without their own home, the Simon Community has warned.

With today marking World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day, the charity has launched a new campaign emphasising the links between the two.

Spokesman Kevin Bailey said "having a mental health problem can create the circumstances which can cause a person to become homeless in the first place".

Meanwhile, "poor housing or homelessness can also increase the chances of developing a mental health problem, or exacerbate an existing condition".

"These are social issues that require a focused partnership approach from government through to localised delivery across Northern Ireland ensuring that we prevent homelessness and poor mental health," Mr Bailey said.
