Mary McAleese installed as lay canon at Church of Ireland cathedral
FORMER president Mary McAleese has been installed as an honorary lay canon at a Church of Ireland cathedral in Dublin.
Mrs McAleese was installed on Sunday along with three others at Christ Church Cathedral by the dean, the Very Reverend Dermot Dunne.
Honorary lay canons may attend chapter meetings, and preach and serve for five years.
Prof Jim Lucey, clinical professor of psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin, was also installed as a lay canon.
Rev Lorraine Kennedy-Ritchie, minister at Clontarf and Scots Presbyterian Church in Dublin, and Jesuit priest Fr David Tuohy became ecumenical canons.
