Universal Credit: New benefits system introduced to north from next week

Universal Credit is to be introduced to the north from next week

A NEW benefits system will be rolled out in Northern Ireland from Wednesday of next week.

Universal Credit, which replaces six existing benefits, will be phased in over the next 12 months.

New claimants from the Limavady area of Co Derry will be the first to claim Universal Credit.

People already claiming benefits including for housing and childcare will not be affected until 2019 unless their entitlement changes.

The change aims to simplify the benefits system.
