A DOCUMENTARY about the Loughinisland massacre will have its premiere in New York later this month.

'No Stone Unturned', directed by Oscar-winner Alex Gibney and produced by Enniskillen-born journalist Trevor Birney, will be shown at the New York Film Festival on September 30.

The documentary, which has been tipped for an Oscar nomination, will investigate allegations of collusion over the killing of six Catholic men 23 years ago.

Former Irish News journalist Barry McCaffrey, who was involved in the documentary, uncovered crucial documents and key information which shed new light on the killer gang and major failings in the murder investigation.

The men died when UVF gunmen opened fire at the Heights Bar in Loughinisland, Co Down, during a televised World Cup match in June 1994.

The men who died were: Adrian Rogan (34), Malcolm Jenkinson (53), Barney Green (87), Daniel McCreanor (59), Patrick O'Hare (35) and Eamon Byrne (39).

In June last year the Police Ombudsman, Dr Michael Maguire, said collusion was a significant feature in the murders.

He found no evidence police had prior knowledge of the attack, but identified "catastrophic failings" in the investigation.
