A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy is critically ill in intensive care after being knocked down by a car in Co Antrim.
The collision happened on the Glenravel Road in Ballymena on Saturday afternoon at around 5pm.
Following the incident, the road was closed in both directions for several hours and the boy was airlifted from the scene to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.
A police spokesman said a black Toyota Avensis car was involved in the incident. “
The boy was taken to hospital following the collision and remains in intensive care at this time,” he said.
“The driver of the car has been spoken to by police. The road was closed for a number of hours but has since reopened.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact officers at Ballymena station on 101.”
