Cyclist Gavin Moore dies after car collides with North Down club riders in Bangor

Gavin Moore, a 40-year-old cyclist, died in hospital following a crash on the main Bangor to Newtownards road in Co Down.

He died in the Royal Victoria Hospital yesterday evening after three cyclists were involved in a collision with a white Hyundai car near Conlig at around 2pm.

The father of two was cycling with North Down Cycling Club when the incident occurred.

Three other cyclists Gareth Boyle and Keith Freel were also involved. Mr Boyle suffered serious but non life threatening injuries. Mr Freel was given the okay just a very bad concussion.

Rachy Sinnamon was also involved but walked away.

A 59-year-old man was being questioned last night following the death.

Mr Moore, a committee member of North Down Cycling Club, had asked club members if there was any interest in the cycle on Facebook.

He posted on the Facebook page of North Down Cycling Club on Monday:

"Tuesday novice ride.....


There is nobody down on the support calendar to help out so I'm just asking if there is an interest in the (Novice) run or will we give it a miss this week with the holidays etc? 


Cheers"

A committee member of North Down Cycling Club Sam Carson, posted on Facebook:

"Dear all,

It's with great regret the committee has to inform you of the passing of club and committee member Gavin Moore following an accident on the Ards to Bangor dual carriageway this afternoon.

Gareth Boyle and Keith Freel were also involved. Gareth suffered serious but non life threatening injuries, Keith was given the okay just a very bad concussion.


Rachy Sinnamon also involved but thankfully walked away.

The NDCC Committee send the condolences and sympathies to his Mother and Father, partner Joanne, Gavins kids Adam & Luke, Joanne kids and the whole family circle."

Police appealed for information.
