SINN Féin has selected two new candidates to be co-opted into seats in Foyle and West Tyrone.

Community worker Karen Mullan was selected to replace Elisha McCallion as a Foyle MLA.

The assembly seat became vacant after Mrs McCallion was elected as an MP for the constituency in a shock upset in last week's election.

Ms Mullan who works with community organisation Hillcrest House said she was "proud and honoured" to be chosen for the co-option.

"I want to thank my colleagues for placing their faith in me to represent this constituency alongside Raymond McCartney," she said.

Catherine Kelly was selected to replace newly elected MP Barry McElduff in West Tyrone.

Ms Kelly, who worked as a nursery assistant and a political advisor to Mr McElduff, said she looked "forward to providing a new voice for the constituency alongside Declan McAleer and Michaela Boyle and the other Sinn Féin representatives to ensure the people of West Tyrone continue to get first-class representation".
