Two police officers have been injured after their car was rammed several times by a stolen camper van.

The officers were in their patrol car when they were struck by the van in the Upper Dromore Road area of Warrenpoint at 4am on Monday.

Chief Inspector Joe McMinn said the patrol vehicle was struck a number of times by a large camper van that had been stolen from the Dundalk area.

Two males who were inside the vehicle escaped from the scene on foot and were last seen in the Dallan Road-Clonallan Road area.

"We are investigating a possible link between this incident and the theft of a vehicle in the Burren area a short time later," Mr McMinn added.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 118 of May 22.
