Child plunges from Castlerock cliff

A 12-year-old boy was rescued by coastgaurd teams after plunging as much as 20ft off a cliff at Castlerock in County Derry.

The child was taken by paramedics to Causeway Hospital were he is receiving care. He is understood to have suffered head and leg injuries. 

John McPoland of the Ambulance Service told the BBC: "We received reports that a 12-year-old male had fallen on to the rocks at the beach. We dispatched a rapid response paramedic and an accident and emergency crew.

"When they arrived and assessed the scene, we required the assistance of the coastguard also," he said.

"They attended the scene, took the young fella from the rocks and handed him over to the care of the paramedics."
