PPS: Sex-slave couple's sentences will not be appealed

Keith Baker and his wife Caroline Baker were jailed for holding a woman with learning disabilities captive and subjecting her to horrific sexual attacks

SENTENCES imposed on a Co Armagh couple who kept a woman with learning disabilities as a sex slave for years will not be appealed.

The Public Prosecution Service has confirmed it will not refer the sentences handed to Keith and Caroline Baker to the Court of Appeal on the grounds of undue leniency.

The couple subjected the woman to horrific sexual abuse while holding her as a virtual prisoner for eight years.

Keith Baker (61), of Drumellan Mews, Craigavon, was jailed for 15 years last month, with a further five years on license.

Caroline Bernadette Baker (56), of the same address, was handed three years for her role in the case, of which half is to be served on licence.

A PPS spokeswoman said: "The sentences handed down to Keith and Caroline Baker have been carefully considered and no legal basis has been found to refer them as unduly lenient sentences to the Court of Appeal".
