TAXI drivers should be allowed to use all bus lanes in Belfast for the next six months, a city council committee has suggested.

Taxis had been allowed to use the city's Rapid Transit bus lanes as part of a 12-week trial period, due to end on May 15. Belfast council's city growth committee now wants the trial to be extended for a further six months and include all bus lanes.

The proposal, proposed by Sinn Féin and seconded by the DUP, was agreed at a meeting of the committee yesterday.

The council will now write to the Department for Infrastructure to recommend the move.
