First regional 'area plan' for schools published

The Education Authority has published a regional 'area plan' for schools

THE Education Authority has published the north's first regional 'area plan' for schools.

The plan, published today, includes details of a network of educationally and financially viable schools across the north.

For some, this will mean closure or amalgamation.

St Brigid's Primary School in Augher, Co Tyrone, has already been earmarked for closure in September.

The EA said the core purpose of area planning was "to ensure a network of sustainable schools that are the right type, the right size and are located in the right place".
