A Co Down man has died in an accident in Scotland.

Conor Morgan, a father-of-three from Hilltown Road in Cabra, near Hilltown, died on Wednesday.

He was an employee of Re-Gen Waste Ltd and is believed to have worked as a truck driver.

The company yesterday said an investigation into what happened was underway.

"It is with much sadness and deep regret that we confirm that our employee Conor Morgan was fatally injured in a tragic accident in Scotland on April 19 2017," it said a statement.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to Conor’s family and circle of friends. Conor was a popular employee and will be sadly missed by the entire Re-Gen family."

Kilcoo GAA club postponed an under-16 game on Thursday and a senior match against Mayobridge yesterday due to Mr Morgan's death and expressed "deepest sympathy with Conor's family at this very sad time".

Club members also described him as a "true gentleman".

SDLP MP Margaret Ritchie, who visited the family yesterday, said he was "a very hard working man".

"I would offer my deepest sympathies to his widow Shirleen and his children and also his mother and sisters and brothers," she said.

"They are suffering immeasurable grief. A deeply stoical family and one thing, they are remarkably resilient in the face of such tragedy.

"I understand Conor was a very hard working man who provided for his wife and children. He was away all week in Scotland and came home at weekends."
