THE funeral took place in west Belfast yesterday of the father of Freddie Scappaticci.

Several dozen mourners gathered at St Agnes’ Church in Andersonstown for the Requiem Mass for 98-year-old Daniel Scappaticci, who died in hospital earlier this week.

In 2003 his son Freddie was alleged to be the British agent known as Stakeknife, a claim he strongly denied.

It is believed he did not attend his father’s Requiem Mass and press photographers who were gathered outside the church were asked to leave by relatives.

An ice cream van led the cortege as it made its way along the Andersonstown Road, with the coffin draped in an Italian flag.
