TWO teenage girls were rescued after being trapped on rocks near Bangor, Co Down.

The girls, both aged 15, became stuck on the rocks at Ballymacormick Point near Bangor for a few hours on Tuesday.

It is understood the teenagers had gone for a walk, but had travelled too far before the tide came in around them.

It was reported that they were waist high in water at one stage.

Bangor coastguard rescue team, the coastguard helicopter and Bangor lifeboat were deployed after the alarm was raised at around 9.30pm.

They were located and rescued by Bangor Coastguard and treated by paramedics at the scene for the effects of cold.
