A NEW South West College campus is to be built on the site of the former Erne Hospital in Enniskillen after formal planning permission was granted.

The £24.6 million facility will house 7,000 full-time and part-time students. It is expected to open in September 2019.

The college's chief executive Malachy McAleer said the project will be of huge benefit to students.

"The proposed building on the site of the old Erne Hospital is the perfect solution for the new Enniskillen Campus and an example of how landmark historic sites can be reimagined for alternative uses for future generations," he said.

The former Erne Hospital closed in June 2012 and was demolished in 2014.
