THERE was some disruption for travellers at Belfast City Airport yesterday afternoon after police attended following concerns "raised during routine screening of passengers".

The airport said nothing untoward was found during the alert, which caused delays to some departing flights and required passengers to go back through security checks.

It is understood the incident happened around lunchtime yesterday afternoon.

One passenger wrote on social media: "Flight lands early for a change but kept on runway for last 25 mins due to some sort of fire alarm inside Belfast City Airport. Sod's law."

Another added that the "queue for security is out the door".

A spokesman for Belfast City Airport said: "Police attended Belfast City Airport this afternoon after staff raised concerns during routine security screening of passengers.

"Nothing untoward was found. There were some delays to departing aircraft as passengers were screened again."

The Fire Service said they were not called to the scene.
