A POLICEMAN is recovering after he was shot during firearms training at a PSNI station.

The shooting happened at Seapark station, near Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

No-one else was involved and the policeman is recovering at home.

A PSNI spokesman said: "A police officer received hospital treatment for minor injuries which occurred during firearms training in the Carrickfergus area shortly before 3pm on Wednesday March 8".

"First aid was administered at the scene and the officer is now recovering at home," he said.

The Police Ombudsman's Office said the PSNI had reported the shooting to them.

A spokesman said: "Police informed the Police Ombudsman's Office about an incident in which an officer was injured during firearms training at Seapark police station near Carrickfergus".

"After discussion, it was decided that there is no requirement for an investigation by the Police Ombudsman's Office," he said.
