A MURDER inquiry has been launched after the body of a 29-year-old father-of-two was found in Lurgan.

The man has been named as Paul Gerard Curran and he was found at a house in Manor Drive in the Taghnevan area of the Co Armagh town on Thursday afternoon.

It is understood his body was discovered following an altercation in the house.

Two men and a woman, all in their thirties, were arrested. They remain in police custody this morning.

A spokesman for the Ambulance Service said crews attended the scene at around 2pm yesterday.

"A man was found unconscious and not breathing," he said.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Talbot said police were called to the house at around 2.50pm.

"A post mortem examination will take place to determine the cause of death," he said.

He said: "I would ask anyone in the community who knows anything about the circumstances to contact police and give us this information".

SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly said she was stunned to learn of the death.

"I want to express my deepest sympathies to his family," she said. "It's an awful tragedy that a young man has lost his life."

Sinn Féin councillor Liam Mackle said he was saddened by the young man's death.

"I would call on anyone with information to pass it on to police so they can get to the bottom of what actually happened," he said.

"There have been several deaths in the Taghnevan area. It's just terrible news for his family. He was only a young man."

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart expressed her sympathies to the man's family.

"To have a young life cut short in such circumstances is shocking and a cause of concern to the wider community of Lurgan," she said.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family, who received the news this afternoon.

"I understand the PSNI has now launched a murder investigation and I would urge anyone with any more details to help in assisting the police with their investigation."
