Man in his seventies who died after his Land Rover hit a tree is named

The man who died after his Land Rover crashed into a tree in Co Derry on Tuesday has been named as 75-year-old Jim McCollum.

The one-vehicle crash happened on Curragh Road, near Castleroe Wood outside Coleraine, shortly after 3pm.

The man's Land Rover left the road before crashing into the tree.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours following the collision.

Police appealed to anyone with information to contact them on 101.

Sinn Féin assembly member Caoimhe Archibald sent her condolences to Mr McCollum's family.

The East Derry MLA said: "Any death on the road is one too many".

"I would like to express my sympathies to the family and friends of the man who has died as a result of today’s crash," she said.
