A 25-YEAR-OLD man was being questioned by gardaí last night after they found a bomb in a car he was driving.

Officers stopped the car in Limerick on Tuesday night. The bomb was discovered at 1am yesterday as the car was searched in a compound at the back of Henry Street garda station.

Gardaí said the bomb was an improvised explosive device (IED).

An Irish army bomb disposal team defused the device at around 4am.

It was later removed for further examination.

The 25-year-old can be held for up to 72 hours.
