Man dies in road crash near Bangor

A MAN in his sixties has died in a two-car crash in Co Down.

The collision happened on Cotton Road near Six Road Ends outside Bangor shortly after 11am yesterday.

The man was the driver of a red Renault Clio car which was involved in a collision with a white Volkswagen Passat.

Police appealed for information.

Meanwhile, a man killed in a car accident near Malin Town in Co Donegal has been named locally as father-of-two, John McLaughlin.

Mr McLaughlin, who was in his thirties, died when his car was in collision with another vehicle at Strand Head close to Malin shortly after 6pm on Monday. The driver of the other car was not injured in the collision.

Mr McLaughlin was from Malin but lived at Greencastle outside Moville in Inishowen. He was a member of Malin GAA club. It is believed he was travelling to an underage training session when the accident happened.

Malin GAA said: "It is with total shock and sadness that our club learned of the tragic death of John. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with Mags, John's wife, Niamh, his daughter, Sean, his son and John's parents, Noel and Rosaleen, his brothers and sisters and all John's extended family."

It is understood Mr McLaughlin died at the scene of the accident. Garda superintendent, Eugene McGovern urged anyone with information to contact Buncrana Garda station.
