Police investigating the murder of 22-year-old Conan Anderson have arrested a man.

Mr Anderson, from the Short Strand area of east Belfast, died in hospital on Saturday, almost two weeks after he was admitted.

Police launched a murder inquiry after his death,

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: “The 26-year-old was arrested in the Belfast area this morning and is currently helping police with their enquiries.



“Conan tragically passed away on Saturday afternoon after being admitted to hospital with serious head injuries on the evening of Monday 6th February. The matter was reported to police on Wednesday 8th February and enquiries established that an incident had occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in the Arthur Lane area of Belfast.



“I would continue to appeal to anyone with any information or anyone who was in the Upper Arthur Street, Montgomery Street and Arthur Lane area on Monday 6th February around 5:30am who may have information which could be of assistance to my investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave Street quoting reference number 1034 08/02/17. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
