A 21-YEAR-OLD woman has been remanded in custody over the death of a young south Armagh GAA player in a road crash five years ago.

Coleen McCann, with an address at Drumacon, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was arrested by gardaí at Dublin Airport yesterday morning after returning from the US.

She later appeared before Carrickmacross District Court charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Ciaran McKenna.

The 17-year-old, a minor footballer with Crossmaglen Rangers, was killed in a crash at Maghernakill, Castleblayney, on July 30 2012.

The collision happened just a few miles from the apprentice joiner's home.

Judge Denis McLoughlin refused bail after a Garda detective said Ms McCann was a "flight risk".

The detective said several previous attempts to interview or charge Ms McCann, who also used an address at Crossmaglen in Co Armagh, were unsuccessful.

He claimed that on one occasion a relative told gardaí she would be at home on a specific date but he later learned she had gone to America on that day.
