A SOUTH Belfast resident has voiced her anger after a Victorian building in a conservation area was bulldozed early on Sunday morning.

The Bladon Park 'pavilion' in the Malone area has previously been the subject of plans to build apartments.

Liz Doyle, whose house in Broomhill Park backs on to the demolished property, said she was woken at 8am yesterday by a "big rumbling sound".

"Initially it was quite frightening as I had no idea what was happening," she said.

"When I became aware of what was going on my fear turned to anger at the sight of this beautiful old building in the middle of a conservation area being flattened."

Ms Doyle said the timing of demolition work concerned her.

"I checked the Belfast City Council website and it stated that building work should not be carried out on a Sunday morning," she said.

"The noise and the dust would be an issue at any time of the day but on a Sunday morning it is not acceptable."
