New State Pathologist for Northern Ireland confirmed
DR James Lyness is to formally take on the role of State Pathologist for Northern Ireland.
Justice minister Claire Sugden last night confirmed that he would take up the post from April 1.
Dr Lyness, who has worked with state pathologist's department since 2007, was appointed on a designate basis last year and takes over from acting State Pathologist Professor Jack Crane.
"The post represents a vital element within our justice system and delivers essential safeguards and protection for the public," Ms Sugden said.
Prof Crane retired from the job in 2014, but later agreed to take up the role of acting State Pathologist prior to the appointment of Dr Lyness.
Ms Sugden added: "I also extend my thanks to Professor Jack Crane for his valuable contribution while in the role. After decades of public service, he takes with him the best wishes and gratitude of everyone in the department".
