A FERMANAGH man has told of the dramatic scenes when a lorry caught fire in the centre of Lisnaskea.

Owen Mooney captured footage of the vehicle ablaze close to his home on Main Street in the the Co Fermanagh town on Monday night.

He told The Irish News how just minutes after he saw the lorry stopped on the street, it was engulfed by flames.

He also described hearing three explosions from the vehicle.

"It all literally happened so fast," he said.

"I'd seen the lorry stopped on the street with its hazard lights on and assumed it had broken down or there had been some sort of collision or something.

"Then within three, four minutes the whole cab was on fire.

"The fire brigade were here straight away, but there were three explosions in all, probably the tyres exploding because of the fire."

Mr Mooney said he was told the driver had initially seen smoke coming from the back of the lorry.

"When he stopped to check where the smoke was coming from, he saw flames underneath the lorry," he said.

"He tried to get people away, telling them to run away.

"Thankfully the driver was okay and everybody got away.

"It could have been a lot worse because there were children and families in the street at the time."

The burnt-out lorry was later removed from the scene, but diversions remained in place.
