Food company at Belfast City airport fined for hygiene offences

A FOOD company which runs three outlets at George Best Belfast City Airport has been fined £400 for hygiene offences.

Autogrill Catering UK Limited operates the Harvest Market Restaurant, Bushmills Bar and Starbucks (formerly Lavazza Café) at the airport.

A environmental health officer made a visit in October 2015 after a member of the public complained to Belfast City Council about poor hygiene conditions and staff practices, the council said.

Following the visit the council prosecuted the company.

Offences included storing high risk foods above 8°C, storing ice in contaminated conditions and a failure to keep the food premises clean and well maintained.

The company was also fined for failing to keep food equipment clean, failing to keep food equipment in good repair to protect it from contamination, failure to maintain wall surfaces in a food room in an easy to clean condition and failure by staff to maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness.

The company was also ordered to pay £66 in costs.
