THREE teenagers were rescued from the roof of their car last night after it became caught in a river ford in Co Antrim.

A woman and two men, all aged 19, were travelling in the car on Livery Road in Stranocum when it tried to pass through a ford which crosses the River Bush at around 7.10pm.

The water level of the river was high following heavy rain on Tuesday night. A spokesman for the Fire Service said the car's electrics cut out as it tried to drive through the high water.

The three teenagers climbed on to the roof of the car and rang 999.

Fire crews helped rescue them with the help of a ladder. The Fire Service spokesman said the teenagers were suffering from mild hypothermia.

A spokesman for the Ambulance Service said a crew assessed the teenagers but no one was taken to hospital.
