A community funded defibrillator has been stolen from a south Belfast shop.

It was taken from outside the Vivo store on the Lower Ormeau Road in the early hours of Monday.

The life-saving piece of kit has only been in place for less than two weeks and was paid for by customer donations totalling £2,000.

"It's silly, crazy, so much money went into and it is to save someone's life, somebody's father or mother is relying on it," store manager William Lucas said.

The defibrillator has a GPS tracking device built in, which could alert police to its location, but Mr Lucas is hoping the device will be returned.

"Police have said that this has happened a couple of times before and the person's conscience has got the better of them and they've decided to sneak it back. So as far as we're concerned as long as we get it back that's the most important thing and then maybe look to relocate it to ensure it doesn't get stolen again," he added.
