A MAN in his forties was in a critical condition in hospital on Monday night after he was hit by a car in Co Tyrone.

The pedestrian was knocked down on Strabane Road in Newtownstewart at around 6.35pm.

Police have already spoken to the driver of the car - a black Vauxhall Vectra. Officers appealed to anyone with information to contact them.

Meanwhile, Transport NI warned drivers to be careful as temperatures were predicted to fall close to freezing on Monday night.

Patchy fog was also forecast for low-lying areas including the Bann Valley and around the Fermanagh loughs.
