THE sons of Crossmaglen Rangers captain James Hughes, who was shot dead in Co Louth five years ago, are to be given a €90,000 payout from an insurance policy held by the gunman, according to reports.

The policy is to be paid after Mr Hughes' partner Genny McMullan sued the personal representative of the estate of the late gunman, the Irish Times reported.

Mr Hughes was shot in a taxi at a Dundalk housing estate on December 11 2011.

Shane Rogers, of Iniskeen, Co Monaghan, was charged with the murder but was later found hanging in a cell at Cloverhill courthouse.

In the High Court in Dublin yesterday, Mr Justice Kevin Cross made an order for payment of a €90,244 insurance policy held by Rogers.

Ms McMullan waived any right to the money, which will go to Mr Hughes's three sons.
