A MAN in his early twenties has been taken from Derry and shot in the leg in Dungiven.

The paramilitary-style attack happened on Hass Road at around 9pm on Wednesday.

Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey said the man was en route to visit his father in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry when he was abducted.

Local people called for emergency medical help after the man was seen crawling along Hass Road.

Mr McGlinchey said he was appalled by the shooting - the second gun attack in Dungiven in the last week.

"This is not the way forward," he said. "The people of Dungiven don't want this."
