POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault involving a glass bottle in Co Antrim at the weekend.

A man was struck with a glass bottle on the back of the head in an early morning assault in Lisburn on Sunday October 16.

The incident happened in the Sloan and Young Street area at around 2.45am.

Last week the PSNI released a picture of a man they want to speak to in relation to a similar assault in Belfast in June.

The male victim had a bottle broken over his head on June 9 near the Odyssey side of the Lagan Weir Bridge at approximately 11:45pm.

The accused, who is described as being around 18 years of age, five feet eight inches tall, of stocky build and with dark hair, was wearing a white tennis shirt with a lined pattern. It is thought he fled on foot and police believe he was part of a group of approximately seven men and women of around the same age.
