Public help arrest hijacking suspect in west Belfast

POLICE have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of hijacking and a number of other offences in Belfast.

Shortly after 8am it was reported that a man threatened a young woman in a car park in the area of Millenium Way in west of the city before stealing her car keys and making off in her Peugeot 107 car.

The car was spotted driving erratically on the Whiterock road a short time later and members of the public were able to apprehend the suspect and restrain him until police arrived on the scene.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on 101, quoting reference number 201 of 23/09/16.
