A PANTOMIME horse race, live pro wrestling, and a screening of eighties classic E.T. were among the events on offer at Belfast's Culture Night.

The annual event took over the city centre yesterday evening, with thousands of people thronging the streets.

Many queued to sample free food on Donegall Street or watch highlights including a BMX jump show on Library Street and Roller derby demonstrations on Writer's Square.

The celebrations included a free exhibition at Cathedral Studios and visual art exhibition by Japanese artist Shiro Masyuama - complete with a beanie hat made out of his own hair.

The Belfast celebrations were among dozens of Culture Nights held across Ireland.

In Derry, the festivities included 'laughter yoga', Flamenco dancing and craft classes.

In Dublin, people were treated to tours of the 18th century Marsh's Library, a concert at Dublin Castle and taster yoga sessions.
