The PSNI has been asked to clarify if a gun has been found in a mainly unionist district of Co Tyrone.

It has been claimed the weapon was discovered during construction work at a house in the Tamnamore area, which is near Dungannon, earlier this year.

Sources say the weapon and a training manual were later removed from the site by the PSNI.

However, when asked by The Irish News if there had been a find in the area, a spokesman for the PSNI said it had “no knowledge of a arms find in Tamnamore area in June/July”.

Relatives for Justice director Mark Thompson urged the PSNI to confirm what exactly was discovered at Tamnamore.

“We would call on the PSNI to clarify its position,” he said.

“Whether a weapon was retrieved from the scene and what are the ballistics on that weapon?”

Alan Bracknell from the Pat Finucane Centre said the campaign group has written to the local PSNI commander asking for an explanation.
