CO Derry primary school children have escaped serious injury after their school bus was in collision with a van.

The Ballyhanedin Road in Claudy is closed following the crash and diversions are in place.

Police said "a number of minor injuries have been reported". 

Translink said the Ulsterbus school service was in collision with a second vehicle at around 8am on the road between Feeney and Claudy.

"There were 24 passengers on board the service travelling to Cumber Claudy Primary School and St Colmcille’s Primary School," a spokeswoman said.

"Emergency services attended the scene, and one passenger was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. A relief bus transported the other passengers onwards. 

"An investigation into the circumstances of the collision will be carried out by Translink and the PSNI.”
