A MAN has been arrested after heavy-armed police were called to the scene of an incident at a house in Coleraine.

The situation took place in a quiet residential part of the Co Derry town on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Inspector Ian Magee said: “Following an incident at a house in the Mountsandel area of Coleraine police have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and assault on police.

"He is currently in police custody.

"I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support during this incident.”
