POLICE in west Belfast have hit out at so-called death drivers who set a car alight after it crashed and landed on its roof.

Officers shared pictures online showing the burnt out vehicle in the Colinwell area of the city.

It was spotted being driven dangerously on Wednesday at about 8pm before crashing some 20 feet from the road.

Police said fire crews were called after those inside the vehicle set it alight before fleeing the scene.

Posting the photos on Facebook, a PSNI officer branded those responsible "careless and thoughtless individuals".

The officer wrote: "Please take a moment to look at the pictures below. Can you tell what they are?

"These photos show what is left of a vehicle which was driven dangerously in the Colinwell area last night at approximately 8pm before crashing and landing on its roof some 20 feet from the road.

"The cowardly occupants then set the vehicle alight before running away before Woodbourne LPT (Local Policing Team) officers and Fire Service attended.

"Please continue to report these death drivers to police if you see them on the roads. Not only are these careless and thoughtless individuals putting themselves at risk but it could be you or your loved one who falls victim to their dangerous actions.

"Your call to police could save a life."
