POLICE in Derry have appealed for information about an attempted car hijacking involving a youth carrying a baseball bat.

He was one of a number of youths who stopped a number of cars on the Ardmore Road near the Tullyally Road shortly after midnight on Thursday.



Constable Millar said: “It was reported that at around 00.20am a number of cars were stopped by a group of youths on the Ardmore Road near the Tullyally Road in an attempt to hijack them. One of the youths was reported to be carrying a baseball bat."



“I am appealing for anyone with information who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or have information about the incident to contact police at Strand Road on 101 quoting reference 20 4/8/16. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
