A MASKED man with a suspected firearm robbed a pharmacy in south Belfast using a car believed to be linked to an earlier hijacking, police report.

A woman was left "badly shaken" but uninjured after being ordered out her black VW Passat car by two men in Dunluce Avenue around 2.55pm on Thursday.

The first man was described as approximately 5’8” in height, with short dark brown hair, of thin build and wearing a dull coloured jacket.

The second male was described as around 5’10” in height, with short dark hair, of large build and wearing a white tee-shirt.

A short time later, a robbery was reported at commerical permises on the nearby Lisburn Road.

Police say that a large masked man entered the pharmacy armed with a suspected firearm and demanded tablets from the staff.

He was given a number of items before he and another accomplice made off in a black VW Passat in the direction of Tates Avenue.

A PSNI statement said: "Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime believe both incidents to be linked and have appealed for anyone who witnessed either incident or who has any information to contact detectives in Musgrave on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Earlier on Thursday, a number of youths, one holding a baseball bat, attempted to hijack a number of cars in the Ardmore Road area of Derry.
