A 35-year-old man from the Oldpark area of north Belfast and his partner, also aged 35, have been unconditionally released by police after being arrested in connection with the murder of taxi driver Michael McGibbon.

The father-of-four was shot several times in the leg in an alley in Ardoyne in April and bled to death in what was thought to have been a botched paramilitary style shooting.

Dissident republican organisation 'the IRA' later claimed responsibility for the murder.

Mr McGibbon's widow Joanne and her children have since left her Butler Walk home in Ardoyne after saying she feared for her family's safety.

The couple were arrested early on Wednesday morning and taken to Musgrave PSNI station for questioning.

But both were later released from police custody in the evening.

To date six people have been arrested in connection with the murder of the 33-year-old.
