WORKERS at the Seagate factory in Derry will not be affected by a new round of job cuts, the company has said.

It had been feared the plant would see more job losses after the disc drive manufacturer said on Monday it planned to cut its global workforce.

The company aims to cut 14 per cent of its workers by the end of 2017.

Around 70 people at the Derry plant were made redundant earlier this year.

A spokeswoman said: "I can now confirm that Seagate Springtown will not be affected by this phase of restructuring".

Around 1,400 people work at the plant - making it one of the city's largest employers.
