A former Queen's University Belfast graduate who owes £29,000 in student loans has said he does not think he will ever be able to pay the money back.

Mark Healy (25) graduated in 2014 with a 2:1 in History and Politics. Originally from Derry, he works in Belfast as a senior sourcing specialist for Credit Suisse through Alexander Mann Solutions.

Including tuition fees and maintenance loans he received approximately £6,000 per year and now owes approximately £29,000 to the Student Loans Company.

"I do not think I will ever pay it back,"Mr Healy said.

"The interest alone is more than I am paying back at the moment. When I started university we were told about how low the interest rates were and that a loan was something everyone would need. Looking back on it, the interest rates may be low but due to the huge sums of money being loaned out it eventually all adds up."
