PARENTS in Dungannon have been warned to be vigilant after a man in his 30s was reported to be driving around making suspicious approaches to young girls.

Police confirmed they are investigating one report in the Ballygawley Road area on Saturday July 2.

It was claimed that a man driving a black car stopped near a group of children and offered a girl a lift.

She refused and left the area.

The man was described as being in his 30s, with black hair and a beard. He was also wearing a baseball cap and had a gold-coloured chain around his neck.

A Dungannon resident, who said his daughter was also approached by a man as she left a play park, claimed that up to six children have been approached by the same driver in the past week.

"He arrived here on Saturday trying to lift children, small kids around seven and eight. My wee daughter left the park and she is 13," he said.

"He has also done it at Tesco, Sainsbury's and at the far end of the town."

Having discussed his concerns with other parents, he said attempted abductions may have been taking place over the past five weeks.

The man called for action to be taken.

PSNI Inspector Neil Beck confirmed that officers are investigating the July 2 incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen a black car, possibly a Vauxhall Insignia, being driven in a suspicious manner in the area to contact police in Dungannon on 101 quoting reference 1350 02/07/16," he said.
