POLICE are trying to piece together the last movements of a Canadian tourist whose body was found close to a popular fishing lake on the north coast.

Agnieszka Szypulska, who had been holidaying in Northern Ireland, is understood to have died suddenly.

Her body was discovered near Binevenagh Lake at around 11.30am on Saturday by a member of the public.

The lake, which lies on a basalt plateau that towers over the Lough Foyle lowlands below, is stocked with rainbow trout and popular with anglers and is just a few miles from the caravan park and beach at Benone, Co Derry.

It is understood the 39-year-old Canadian/Polish national was last seen in nearby Articlave on Thursday May 12.

Sergeant Stephen Taylor appealed for help from the public to trace her last movements.

“Agnieszka’s body was discovered on Saturday morning, at approximately 11.30am by a member of the public," he said.

“It is believed Agnieszka was on holiday in Northern Ireland and may have been in the Articlave area on Thursday, 12 May. 

"I am trying to trace anyone who may have spoken to or seen Agnieszka over the past few days. If you believe you have any information that may assist us in our enquiries please contact police at Limavady on the non-emergency number 101."
