THE families of two Englishmen feared dead after their microlight crashed off the Co Antrim coast have thanked everyone involved in the searches.

Terry Driffield (66) and Ray Hymas (68), both from north Yorkshire, were travelling in the small plane which crashed into the sea off Glenarm on Thursday of last week after leaving City of Derry airport for Scotland.

Some of the plane's wreckage was found on Friday but nothing else has been discovered.

PSNI Inspector Michael McDonnell said searchers have used Sonar and equipment which scans the seabed to look for the missing men.

"The PSNI helicopter has also conducted over-flights of the harbour and further out to sea," he said. "A series of boats and vessels have also been involved in the search on the water."

Police, Community Rescue Service, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, RNLI, Northern Ireland environment agency and North West Mountain Rescue have all been involved in the searches.

Inspector McDonnell said Community Rescue Service team will continue to search the coast. He said the men's families wanted to extend their thanks to everyone involved in the searches.

"I would also ask the public to be vigilant if they are near Glenarm Harbour and coastlines," he said.
