A CO Tyrone man who died after falling from a balcony in New York during birthday celebrations has been laid to rest.

Mourners gathered at St Patrick's Church, Langfield, Drumquin on Monday to say goodbye to father-of-one Shane Quinn.

The 39-year-old from Coolkeeragh near Drumquin was celebrating his birthday last Tuesday when the tragic accident happened.

He had been living and working in the construction industry in the US since 2000.

At his Requiem Mass Fr Kevin Mullan told the heartbroken family that the community and God was there for them "quietly supporting them in the safety net of love".

Speaking to the Irish News, he said the Quinn family were dealing with "immense sadness", with parents Patricia and Eamonn having lost another son Kevin 12 years ago.

"They are just immensely sad, but very quiet in their grief," Fr Mullan said.

Mr Quinn leaves behind a son, Ryan, and Cork-born fiancée Jeanette O'Gorman who has lived in the US for many years.

He was a brother to Aaron, Fiona, Brenda, Dermot and the late Kevin.

Described as "kind and good-natured man who cared deeply for his family and friends", a four-hour wake and celebration of his life was held at a New York funeral home on Saturday.

Mr Quinn's brothers brought his body back on Monday morning to the family home at Drumbarley Road, outside Drumquin.

Prayers were said at the house and neighbours visited before the remains were moved to St Patrick's Church, where a wake was held before Requiem Mass at 4pm.

Mr Quinn was buried alongside his brother in the adjoining cemetery.
